Gillian Garrett

Gillian Garrett is a leading California alcohol regulatory attorney who advises and represents producers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers on the full spectrum of state and federal alcohol laws. After practicing for two decades at major international firms and a leading California alcohol law boutique, she founded Gillian Garrett Law, PC to offer highly specialized and efficient strategic counsel to businesses across the industry. 

Clients turn to Gillian for her rare combination of deep regulatory expertise, efficiency, and ability to translate dense regulatory frameworks into clear strategies that help them achieve their business goals. She advises companies ranging from global brands to emerging California businesses on litigation, including protests, accusations and regulatory representation; trade practices and compliance; internal investigations; training; marketing, promotions and events; distribution relationships; commercial transactions; and day-to-day operational issues. She routinely represents clients in mediation and arbitration and appears before the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), the ABC Appeals Board, and the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

In addition to running her firm, Gillian is the author of a forthcoming, first-of-its-kind eBook that distills California and federal unfair trade practice laws into a practical guide for businesses operating – or looking to expand – in the Golden State.

Immediately prior to founding her namesake firm, Gillian was a senior counsel at Hinman & Carmichael, a California alcohol law firm. Before that, she practiced at two major international law firms. At Jones Day in Palo Alto, she focused on commercial litigation, internal investigations, and products liability. At Paul Hastings in Los Angeles, she handled complex business litigation matters, including class actions, internal investigations, unfair competition, First Amendment, and employment. She holds a J.D. from U.C. Berkeley Law School (formerly Boalt Hall) and a B.A. in international relations from Pomona College.
